FROM

COACH JACOBS

Hello All-

As the summer approaches, it is a necessity that we get our practice field in shape.  We are starting to put treatments down to help the current practice field conditions. So--Sunday Gatherings and Open Field Sessions are cancelled as of today.  We want to make sure we have the best facility available when Summer Opportunities start in June.  Please stay off the grass.  We will also be doing some renovations to the inside of the Complex as well.

Pending school board approval, Camp/Opportunity forms will be available soon.  Please look for them via e-mail and at each school.

The energy and enthusiasm is high.  I can't wait to actually move and start having some fun!

Contact me with questions.

Let's be special!!!!!!!

Thanks!!

MR. PANTHER AWARD

This award is presented to the Panther player who best displayed dedication, Integrity and Loyalty for the sake of his team.

2010 Winner:

Jason Hamilton

JCHS Football Hall of Fame

1928

1928 was a struggle to find game articles, but alas pantherfb.org dug deep into the archives of the old and now defunct Jersey County Democrat. Although the material shows it's age and is very hard to read, most of the game stories are more detailed than those from previous years. Notice that the author of most of these stories was Frederick Miller a Sophomore. Miller, joined the Varsity football team in 1929 as a Junior and also played in 1930 while a Senior. He was a very special young man and gets a special salute from this website for all he accomplished for our football program.

Starting Sunday January 21st and continuing for the next 10 days, Pantherfb.org announces the top ten hilights from the 2006 season.

10. James McAdams made a very impressive 25 yard reception against Mascoutah in week 5. It was one of the few bright spots on a night that saw the Panthers fall to the Indians. Even though McAdams hauled in a 49 yard pass the week before vs Highland, it was this effort that cracks into the top 10 plays of the season. James will be a key piece of the 2007 offensive puzzle for JCHS. He finished the season with 11 receptions for 203 yards and was chosen as a member of the MVC All-Conference team.

9. Despite suffering problems with leg cramping during the second half, Trevor Crane rushed for 145 yards on 19 carries versus Jacksonville in the season opener. Crane's 9 yard touchdown rumble was selected as the ninth biggest play of the season for the Panthers. It came with 6:54 left in the third quarter and it gave Jersey a 24-7 lead. The Panther senior back led all Jersey rushers with 719 yards on 113 carries in 2006.

8. The  eighth biggest play of the season according to pantherfb.org was our first touchdown of the season in game one versus Jacksonville. Adam Hayes caught a delayed screen pass from QB Andy Updike and scampered 53 yards, as the Panthers jumped on the scoreboard first with 10:40 left in the first half. The touchdown was not only important in getting the season off on a positive note, but it was also encouraging to see Jersey play on the same level with Jacksonville, a team that has had a lot of recent success in the Central State 8 conference and the state playoffs.

7. Coming in at number seven was Senior QB Andy Updike's 18 yard touchdown run that put the Panthers up first in a Mississippi Valley Conference game against the Waterloo Bulldogs. Jersey came into the game with a 3-2 record and the game with the Bulldogs was a must win after falling to Mascoutah the previous week. On 4th and 8, Updike rolled to his right but instead of throwing for a first down he quickly sprinted down the sideline for the score putting JCHS up late in the first quarter.  Updike finished the night with 64 rushing yards on 13 carries.
6. Another big play in the Jersey/Waterloo game came when Panther QB Andy Updike found big #87 Freddie Pohlman in the end zone for a 22 yard touchdown pass. The big score came with just 7:00 to play in the third quarter and cut the Waterloo lead to 21-13 but more importantly swung the momentum to the Panther side.  Updike finished the night completing 7 of 14 passes for 85 yards. The catch for Pohlman was his only reception of the game.

5. The Panther Defense had some key individual showings during 2006, however as a "team", Jersey stood tall on two different occasions that share the 5th biggest play of the season. The first was in OT against Granite City when the defense stuffed the Warriors on a 4th down inside the 1 yard line when Warrior RB Bryan Parker attempted to run over the left side but was stopped. The key defensive gem turned over the ball and momentum back to the Panthers.  Also against Waterloo an even more impressive showing in the final quarter as the Panther defense stopped the Bulldogs on 4 consecutive downs from the one yard line.
4. Game 1 against Jacksonville had several of those individual defensive gems that were mentioned on the previous "hilight of the season".  Adam Hayes who earlier had an inteception and a fumble recovery, picked a great time to get his second pick of the game. With the Panthers holding a slim 24-20 lead, the Crimsons got the ball on the Jersey 44 yard line with just under 2 minutes to play. That is when Hayes picked up his third turnover of the game, the second interception was off of JHS QB Patrick English and sealed the Panther win.

3. The third biggest play of the year turns out to be one for the record books.  Panther RB Adam Hayes  set a new team record for the longest TD run from scrimmage in the fourth quarter against conference rival Triad. The 95 yard touchdown run came with 5:56 remaining in the contest and evened the game with the Knights 21-21. The Panther back also had a 91 yard TD run earlier in the game and eventually finished the game with nearly 200 yards on only 6 carries. Hayes was selected at pantherfb.org offensive player of the game. Unfortunately the Knights bounced back with 15 unanswered points in the remaining minutes and won 36-21.

2. The week four game vs Highland brought another record setting night to the top 10 hilights of 2006.  The MVC All-Conference team members Adam Hayes and Trevor Crane  led the way in setting a new team record for most rushing yards in a single game with 437 yards. The previous record was 381 yards in 1984 against Roxana. The Panthers defeated Highland 27-25, as the Bulldogs made it close in the end. But this was to be the night of the O-line and all of their hard work. The performance  of the offensive line in the  last 4 plus minutes proved to be the difference maker in the game. On a record breaking night for rushing, it is the names of the line that should once and for all get the credit. Those Panther players include Paul Strebel, David Fry, Johnny Schnettgoecke, Brandon Jones, Tyler Hagarty, Ryan Whited, Freddie Pohlman and Brandon Yates.

1. No doubt about the number one play of the season being the OT field goal booted by back-up place kicker Andy Updike. The 21 yard three pointer lifted the Panthers to a 24-21 victory over the Granite City Warriors .  Updike was in charge of place kicking in this contest due to the injury of regular kicker Brandyn Snider, who was injured the week before in a game against Jacksonville. The Panther QB was responsible for 18 of the 24 points scored including 2 touchdown scampers and all 3 PAT's. The touchdown runs were from 4 & 45 yards. Updike who would eventually be chosen as part of the MVC All-Conference team rushed for 88 yards on sixteen carries in the contest.
