1928
1928
was a struggle to find game articles, but alas pantherfb.org dug deep
into the archives of the old and now defunct Jersey County Democrat.
Although the material shows it's age and is very hard to read, most of
the game stories are more detailed than those from previous years.
Notice that the author of most of these stories was Frederick Miller a
Sophomore. Miller, joined the Varsity football team in 1929 as a Junior
and also played in 1930 while a Senior. He was a very special young man
and gets a special salute from this website for all he accomplished for
our football program.

Game
of the Past

JCHS
21 CM 20
September
- 1993

Griffith
gets tackled from behind by a CM defender in this 1993 Play-off game.
With it's offense
relentlessly pounding JCHS throughout the second half, CM had the
defending Mississippi Valley Conference champions staggered and on the
ropes.
But the Panthers
promptly served notice that they are not about to relinquish the Valley
title without a fight.
After CM battled
back from a 14-3 halftime deficit to take a 20-14 lead with eight
minutes left, JCHS sophomore Dylan Griffith answered with a
78-yard touchdown run and Kyle Breden added the PAT that vaulted the
Panthers to a 21-20 victory over CM at Jersey Community High School.

ROCHESTER |
I was really impressed with
how the jv kids came out ready to play from the opening kickoff... I was
having a great time coaching and you could tell the kids were excited to
be playing as well as they did.. For those who don't know we won 30 to 6
and never really gave rochester a chance to do anything in this game.. I
want to start off by saying that the offensive line did an excellent job
blocking, we controlled the line of scrimmage most of the game and were
able to do what we wanted on offense, even allowing us to open up and
throw the ball more than usual.. There were 4 touchdowns scored by Ryan
McQuaid (80 yard touchdown run), Jason Hamilton( 2 long TD receptions
from QB Robbie Miles), and Tyler Slaten ( 50 yard INT return for
touchdown)... Mitch Scoggins also had some key 3rd down catches that
kept some drives alive.. ON DEFENSE the panthers swarmed the offensive
backfield of the rockets and didn't allow much running room at all...
the defensive line did an excellent job stopping the run and giving our
linebackers a chance to make a play... Two bigtime INT's set the stage
for our defense in this game one from Tyler Slaten, and one late in the
game by Luke Pohlman that sealed the game for our young men... This
group of kids is really exciting to watch when they come ready to play,
hope to keep the intensity up and ready for monday's game... GREAT JOB
Panthers!!!! |

WATERLOO |
The
Panthers beat Waterloo 36 to 14, in a game that was ours from the
start... Once again stellar performances by our offensive line opened up
holes for our backs and allowed Robby Miles to throw for three touchdown
passes all of which were thrown to Jason Hamilton..Other touchdowns were
ran by Tony Driver, on a thirty yard run off of a counter play and a 50
yard touchdown run by Ryan McQuaid on a sweep.. Our defense also put up
another great performance as they only allowed one touchdown on defense
(the other coming from a kickoff return)... They always seem to make a
play when they need to, and stuff drives before they start.. I believe
it's a little harder to pick any one person to talk about on defense
because it's more of the whole effort that's makes the difference, so my
hat's off to the defense this week... I just want this team to keep the
intensity up like we have done in the past two games and I know the kids
will enjoy the outcome... GO Panthers!!!!!

MASCOUTAH |
These
boys once again came out ready to play a tough opponent and got the job
done... The Panther offense, which was lacking some regular guys on the
o-line did a good job with their blocks and allowed us to put some real
good drives together, however some mistakes kept us from getting in the
endzone, until the overtime period... Defensively the guys worked their
butts off and came home with the shut out... Mascoutah fumbled the ball
numerous times mostly from errant shot gun snaps and while we couldn't
come up with the ball we were able to get sacks for huge loses and
killing the Mascoutah offense.. this defense has seen a lot of teams in
the spread this year and so far have gotten enough pressure and also
done well enough in coverage to make the opposing offense get out of
their comfort zone and take chances... The only score of the game for
the Panthers came in the overtime period... we lost the coin toss and Mascoutah
chose defense first, so we needed to punch it in with four plays from
the ten... i was pretty comfortable with the way we were running up the
middle so i let our fullback tyler slaten punch it in and he did just
that.. not only with the touchdown but on the two point play as
well,(which was the same play but to the other side) i knew it was a
good call because in the huddle he looked at me and said he wanted the
ball and that was all i needed to hear... i was again proud of these
kids as they don't get a lot of time to practice during the week as a
team and can pull it all together and give a great effort and have put
together a 3 game winning streak!!!! Go Panthers!!!! |

HIGHLAND |
Saturday,
reality kind of caught up with the Panther JV squad. with lack of
numbers and kids who had played the night before being banged up, it was
real tough for the guys to make the Friday night into Saturday morning
turn around... although we came out strong in the first half scoring
first on a TD pass from Miles to Hamilton and Miles kicking the extra
point.... all in all I think our guys played very hard the first half,
even though Highland took the lead late in the half 8 to 7... the second
half was a different story for the guys.. we couldn't seem to get the
yards we were getting in the first half and the fatigue really started
setting in as Highland marched right down the field and scored many
times in the second half... our defense did as good as I felt they could
in trying to stop the Highland power running game.. but no matter what
defense we were in or how many we blitzed, Highland backs would find a
hole to run through... I could just see it in our players eyes that they
were tired... they fought hard and didn't play to bad at all, Highland
just got off the ball better in the second half and controlled the
game.. hopefully we can be more awake and rested for this weeks game
against Triad, also at 10 a.m. game!!! Hope to see the fans come out for
these kids because they play their hearts out.... |
