MR. PANTHER AWARD

This award is presented to the Panther player who best displayed dedication, Integrity and Loyalty for the sake of his team.

2009 Winner:

Michael Pruitt

1928

1928 was a struggle to find game articles, but alas pantherfb.org dug deep into the archives of the old and now defunct Jersey County Democrat. Although the material shows it's age and is very hard to read, most of the game stories are more detailed than those from previous years. Notice that the author of most of these stories was Frederick Miller a Sophomore. Miller, joined the Varsity football team in 1929 as a Junior and also played in 1930 while a Senior. He was a very special young man and gets a special salute from this website for all he accomplished for our football program.

PANTHERS BEST IN HISTORY

Blue and White Miss Title Tie By One Point

Sept. 10 Panthers maul Pleasant Hill in non-conference season opener, showing strong passing attack of Davis to Waggoner and Landon... Sept. 24 blue and White find touch going against strong Wildcat eleven. Thurston's defensive work saves the day for Jerseyville...Oct. 1 Jersey eleven tramples Carrollton. Old rivals find shifty Bailey's speed and glue-fingered Waggoner hard to stop...Oct. 8 Jerseyville shows real power in downing fast Maroon crew. The outstanding line-play of Roger Bailey, Bridgewater, and Landon bottles up big White Hall squad...Oct. 15 Blue and White again score convincing victory over Winchester. White's defensive work along with hard-running Bell keep Wildcats reeling...Oct. 22 Title hopes fall as a strong Pittsfield team edges fighting panthers over disputed extra point. Bailey's speed and powerful running along with Hewitt's great tackles keep Saukee Braves hard pressed... Oct. 29 Panthers slash back to defeat Roodhouse for first time in history. Old jinx is broken as Davis' accurate passing, Bell's hard driving, and Waggoner's pass-receiving make things look easy...Nov. 5 Panthers clinch second place by drubbing Greenfield's fast improved team. Husky Jim Warford shows Tigers how it's done as Bridgewater proves himself to be a promising back... Nov. 12 Subs see plenty of action as Panthers sour Pleasant Hill in a one-sided afternoon duel. Scrubs take it out on hapless Hilltoppers as Jerseyville ends its most successful season.
