SINCLAIRS

MR. PANTHER AWARD

This award is presented to the Panther player who best displayed dedication, Integrity and Loyalty for the sake of his team.

2009 Winner:

Michael Pruitt

1928

1928 was a struggle to find game articles, but alas pantherfb.org dug deep into the archives of the old and now defunct Jersey County Democrat. Although the material shows it's age and is very hard to read, most of the game stories are more detailed than those from previous years. Notice that the author of most of these stories was Frederick Miller a Sophomore. Miller, joined the Varsity football team in 1929 as a Junior and also played in 1930 while a Senior. He was a very special young man and gets a special salute from this website for all he accomplished for our football program.

THE MIRACLE DRIVE OF 2000

One of my favorite player's since I became a JCHS Panther fan is Joey Kallal. So not only was I thrilled to get the opportunity to meet him during the Highland game it also made me think about memories of another Jerseyville/Highland match-up with a much better result. In fact the game on September 30th, 2000 is still the best Panther game I have ever seen. I didn't get the chance to thank Joey for such an entertaining night, but his effort in that game, is one of the reasons why I am proud to say that I love this football program.  The following story is one that I wrote for another website the night of that big game. It is dedicated to Joey, Hawk and that great team of 2000!

Week #6 Highland vs. Jerseyville
9/30/2000

Joey Kallal-September 16th, 2005

Mircle Drive Keeps Streak Alive

Perhaps the most exciting prep football game ever played in Jerseyville, saw the home team score a game winning TD with just 2 seconds remaining to come from behind and defeat the Highland Bulldogs 28-27.

QB Joey Kallal hit Brent Hawkins on a 10 yard TD pass to win this thriller. The Panthers started the last drive on their own 29 yard line, with 49 seconds on the clock. Kallal marched his offense down (8 plays on 71 yards) while working the clock like a master. A 37 yard pass from Kallal to Hawkins brought the ball down to the Bulldog 5 yard line with just 2 seconds left. After a motion penalty against Jerseyville, Kallal rolled to his right and found Brent Hawkins at the goal line flag for the winning score.

Joey Kallal-Senior/2001

A lot of people came to see Highland QB Brendon Delaney play, but it was Panther QB Joey Kallal that stole the show. He was 16/24 for 214 yards and 4 TD's. Besides Hawkins, Kallal also connected to Greg Madson in the first half to tie the score at 7-7.

In the second half his targets were to Nathan Smay and to Todd Ringhausen. Kallal also completed another pass to Greg Madson for the 2 point conversion that gave the Panthers a 22-21 lead late in the game. Highland however recovered a Jerseyville fumble and was able to score on the Panther mistake to take a 27-22 lead. The Panthers were able to bat away a Delany pass on a 2 point conversion. That set up what was to be the most exciting 49 seconds of the Jerseyville season.

Jerseyville's Kallal play was incredible. He managed to maintain his composure under intense pressure. The Panthers improve their record to 6-0 and  their 23rd straight regular season victory. They have not lost an MVC game or a regular season home game in 5 years.
